An easy-to-grow groundcover, Phlox subulata 'Purple Beauty' (Creeping Phlox) carpets the mid-to-late spring garden with starry lavender-purple flowers. Whether you are looking for a water-thrifty addition to flow through a rock garden, or a beautiful way to highlight a spring-blooming bulb collection, 'Purple Beauty' will add pollinator-friendly, drought-tolerant spring beauty to your garden.
Phlox subulata 'Purple Beauty' (Creeping Phlox) is a top choice for an easy-to-grow, ground covering addition to a rock garden, perennial border, bulb garden, or slope. Covered with lovely lavender-purple flowers for 4-6 weeks in the mid-spring garden, this butterfly favorite is also deer resistant and salt tolerant. Growing to just 4-6 inches tall and spreading in a dense moss-like mat to 12-18 inches wide, this native groundcover is an easy way to add spring color and evergreen foliage to the garden. Not fussy, it requires average soil with good drainage in a sunny spot, and once established it’s a water-thrifty perennial that will naturalize and spread, filling in bare spots. Easy care, just shear it back once the flowers have bloomed to promote new foliage and increase next year’s blossoms. The needle-like greenery makes a mounding mat that is both cold hardy and heat tolerant. Suitable for zones 3-9. (4-6" tall x 12-24" wide).

Robust plant with dense roots
"The plant was grown to a moderate size and had very dense root system when delivered. I planted them the third day but I kept watering it in the first two days before planting. The plant lived fine. After planting it my rocky front yard where has full sun in May, I dripped to water it three times per week, five minutes each time. The plant grew slowly seemingly but it now, after three weeks, flowers. I think I can expect a fully established plant in the next year."

Started Out Healthy but Seems to be Stressed by Hot Days
"I planted it in my new desert island I created in our front yard. It seemed to be thriving, even flowering, but now looks like its struggling now that we're having daytime temps over 90 and nearly 100. Not sure I can accurately evaluate it until I know if it tolerates our summer heat."

beautiful tiny lavender flowers
"I have these hoping they will drape over a new rock garden area I made. The plants are pretty small yet but they are growing."
