How do we use your location?
Knowing your location helps us recommend plants that will thrive in your climate, based on your Growing Zone.
Become a pollinator hero with our Superstar Aster Collection. Asters (Symphyotrichum) are versatile and easy to grow in perennial gardens and naturalized meadow-style plantings. As a nectar-and-pollen-rich food source pollinators, they provide some of the season’s last food for pollinators. Create a spectacular Aster border by planting the taller plants in the back, graduating to mid-size with the short growers along the front. Mix in some autumn-flowering Salvia, Echinacea (Coneflower) Coreopsis, and Monarda (Bee Balm) for an easy-care, colorful, long-blooming garden. Plant in average soil in a sunny location with consistent watering. As they establish, they will become more drought tolerant. Divide in spring every 3 years to reinvigorate the plants.
*Plants are subject to change due to availability. If we make substitutions, we feature plants with similar attributes suitable to the collection design. No planting map included.

"I am trying to establish a flower garden around our cabin. There are already a wide variety of wildflowers on our property, asters among them, that seem to do quite well. (We are at 8000 feet and our season is short as the property is covered in 3-4 feet of snow from December thru April. ) So I thought I would try to grow our own asters and see how they do. So far, so good. The plants seem to be thriving during these past 4 weeks after planting, despite wild swings of dry hot weather and fierce mountain rain storms. Will see what happens over the cold months!"
"I love asters. The only ones that haven't grown are the few my dog has eaten. Easy to grow, beautiful blooms and many varieties. All my asters survived the heat of the summer."
