With dissected silver-gray foliage, 'Powis Castle' Artemisia is the perfect companion plant to use with other flowering perennials and ornamental grasses to bring out interesting contrasts of leaf color and texture. It almost never flowers, thus maintaining its neat appearance with no extra effort. Not at all fussy as to soil type, 'Powis Castle' is also quite drought tolerant. Prune back to 6" tall in mid-spring to reinvigorate plant each year.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. "it has been the last man standing when every other plant has died. i have clay soil, so i ammended with compost. its on a dripper system, gets bright morning sun and dappled shade in the afternoon. light color gravel mulch. ordering a bunch more to make a nice drift of them."
"Very impressed. My 2 plants arrived on time and in perfect condition. Packing was ideal and plants were intact. The product also came with a very informative planting guide that I can use, not on for the plants I ordered but I'll keep and refer to it for future planting."
"I ordered an artemisia Powys Castle from High Country in April and now, in October, it's huge (3' across) and blissfully happy in the rather dry, full-sun Zone 6 bed it's in. Also the deer avoid it. Great when you need a plant that will look good all year and hide the die-off foliage of things like poppies that are planted behind"
"Now in year two with this striking plant. When first planted, I overwatered it. Then after cutting back water significantly, it has thrived. Give it room. Definitely will spread to 3' or more if happy. Great smell. Low maintenance. Wonderful texture. I have 3 in my hellstrip that are eye catching and one in my newly xeriscaped front yard. All are thriving w zero care."
"I have bought these several times. In fact, they were one of the first plants I got when I moved into my house and began flipping the yard in favor of drought hardy plants (cuz I was adamant about not catering to stale grass lawns). Sadly, only 2 of my first 6 Powis returned this year (after 6 years - not sure what went wrong) so I'll be replacing with another plant. But the rest have shown remarkable resilience -- I have a total of 15 of these suckers cuz I love them so much. They're pretty, excellent ground cover, smell fantastic. . . . and more silvery in the fall. I neglect them after the first summer and they do just fine."
"I like how the silvery foliage sets off other plants. Check out my photos. Rabbits live underneath this, but they do not eat this."
"This is the honey badger of plants. I live in Phoenix AZ and I bought 3 preplanned gardens. This was one of the only plants that actually survived then thrived. It gets massive! There are 2 plants, they grew to fill an area of about 12x4 square feet and has be cut back regularly."
"I put this in an awkward space between the patio and sidewalk, fall 2022. It came up nicely and started to grow. By this past fall it was huge! It tolerated our 2-3 extreme heat periods very nicely. It was about 4 ft wide, by 36"" tall. I'm going to move in the spring to a spot that needs a larger specimen. It is such a beautiful addition to the border."
"I've had this in my yard for years and it's a great plant. I cut it back every 3-4 years so it's always full and healthy. It doesn't mind getting watered, but does well when neglected. The cool silver green sets off bright flowers."
"This flowerbed is in full screaming sun all day with clay soil. It gets wet in spring and dry in summer, so is challenging for some plants. I had lavender that enjoyed the summers but the springs were too wet. I replaced it with Powis Castle Artemisia and so far it is doing very well."
