• 'Amethyst in Snow' Centaurea is the first bicolor Mountain Bluet released for gardens, bearing fuzzy, deep purple and black floral centers with striking, frilly white ray petals
• Easy-growing, long-lived cottage garden perennial
• Adapts to many types of garden settings and is drought-tolerant
• Attractive to butterflies and other pollinators
A classic, hardy cottage garden perennial receives a refresh! Rather than the dark purple flowers typical of Mountain Bluet, which can be hard to read against its dark-green leaves, 'Amethyst in Snow' Mountain Bluet revels in contrast, featuring three-inch white and purple flowers. This plant makes an easygoing and adaptable addition to perennial garden beds and looks particularly at home in cottage gardens where its rhizomatous tendencies serve to fill garden holes and knit designs together. Responds well to a mid-season cut back if looking tired – just be sure to water deeply afterward to promote vigorous regrowth. This large, leafy, spreading perennial makes a good weed smother once established. Divide plants that develop a donut-like shape (with no growth in their centers) to reinvigorate and reduce irrigation if plants flop. We recommend this plant for garden settings and non-native eco systems. Although it has been well behaved in our garden, the species has been known to spread more aggressively in disturbed areas with moist soil and colder winter temps. Consult your local extension office or native plant society for region specific advice.

Is a vigorous grower. . . and will spread.
"Beautiful, hardy flowers, but like all Centarea, it can be a bit invasive. It will reseed as well as grow through the roots. I finally had to hit it with Roundup (not my first choice) to finally get completely rid of it. It seemed to do really well in the partial shade/northern exposure I had given it."
