• Achillea x 'Moonshine' (Yarrow) is an outstanding perennial plant with silver-gray foliage and lemon-yellow flat-topped flowers that cover the plant all summer long
• Bright yellow flowers provide essential pollen attracting butterflies, bees and beneficial insects to your yard
• ‘Moonshine’ is a well-behaved variety that won’t reseed and spread, and its flowers are excellent for bouquets
• Drought resistant/drought tolerant plant (xeric)
• 1993 Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit recipient
We recommend Achillea x 'Moonshine' (Yarrow) as one of the best garden perennials currently available. It can be used in both drought-resistant (xeric) gardens and perennial borders that receive an average amount of rain, as it is highly adaptable in its soil and water needs. Moonshine Yarrow's distinctive silver-gray foliage is a fine backdrop for the lemon-yellow flower clusters that keep coming all summer, as long as you deadhead. This is a well-behaved variety. It is sterile, meaning it won't reseed and spread. For maintenance, just cut back in spring. Salt tolerant. Cutting propagated. 18" tall x 24" wide.
Planting & Care
Tips On Growing Achillea (Yarrow)
Achillea (Yarrow) are long-blooming, Old World perennials that are exceptionally easy-to-grow and provide ample nectar for butterflies. They are resistant to browsing rabbits and deer. Most are tall, upright growers with the exception of evergreen Achillea ageratifolia (Greek yarrow) and Achillea millifolium
‘Sonoma Coast,' which are groundcovers.
Preferred growing conditions:
These perennials grow in most any type of soil including clay.
Should be mulched in dry climates with most any type of mulch materials including gravel in xeric plantings.
Only requires deep but infrequent watering after their second growing season. Too much water makes them floppy.
Plant in full, hot sun.
Adding just a few handfuls of compost and Yum Yum Mix in the planting hole is enough. Avoid planting into a rich, highly-amended soil; they don't need it and it can make them floppy.

Excellent all the way around
"Excellent all the way around from ordering to shipping and delivery! All the plants arrived healthy and safely. Each little plant was shipped in a custom container that protected them from any damage. I would definitely recommend and will order again!"

Doubled in size and about to bloom after 2 months
"I bought Moonshine from HCG many times and it never disappoints. It has doubled in size and will bloom soon. It has been in the ground for 2-3 months and receives a 1/2 gallon of water every six days via drip irrigation."
— ChristineNM (5/5)
Guaranteed Growth!
"What to put in poor dry soil to quickly bring color to the garden and food for the pollinators. . . yarrow!! I planted 3 tiny plants 6 weeks ago that have already tripled in size and are putting out flowers. Thank you Moonshine Yarrow, you're a rock star!"
— Enthusiastic A. (5/5)
Good backbone plant for the yard
"I've had this plant in the yard since 2018--5 years. I have one seed produced plant. I have divided it a couple of times so have a few now. It's beautiful, looks good with every plant I have, and doesn't need extra care in my dry climate. I've seen birds foraging in them in the winter. I've found it better to give it less than all day sun. One time, gophers killed one, not from eating the roots. They made a room under it, and the roots were hanging in air. Now I put hardware cloth under it and it has kept the gophers from bothering it."
— Santa G. (5/5)
Beautiful plant
"Great plant. I bought a dozen. 10 out of the 12 from HCG were in great shape. Two were not. This is nearly always the case with my orders with HCG. The bulk of the plants they supply in any one order are excellent. And then one or two are not for which I inevitably have to request replacements. Almost as if they cut corners. But all in all, my plants did beautifully."
— GK (4/5)
Tolerates all Conditions
"The rabbits completely leave this alone!"
— Anonymous (5/5)
Beautiful
"My second photo didn't upload (it uploaded the same photo twice). These not only survived winter but exploded in growth after just one full year. Could not be happier."
— PaperDiva (5/5)
Compact and floriferous
"I like how this Yarrow is so compact, but has so many flowers. It survived 3/4"" hail and both plants are very vigorous in their growth."
— RRZ (5/5)
makes a wonderful border
"i've created a border against a stone wall w this yarrow and penstemon and it's working out nicely."
— Flabbygardener (5/5)
Easy grower.
"Sunny addition to the perennial garden. Planted last fall and growing beautifully."
— Gaidy (5/5)
