Four O’Clocks get their name because they don’t open until the late afternoon, creating much anticipation! This tropical wildflower has been a garden favorite for centuries, probably grown by your grandmother. An annual staple for any gardener.
Check for your last frost date and plant after this has passed. Choose a
spot on your property that gets 6 or more hours of direct sun a day unless you are planting seeds for shade.
Prepare your soil by clearing the area of all existing growth. Simply dig up everything that is growing, turn the soil and rake the area flat. If this is an area that has never before been gardened, you may need to till the area up to remove growth.
Mix the seeds with sand* for better visibility and scatter the seeds directly on top of the soil. If you are sowing a larger area, we recommend using a seed spreader; if not, you can sow by hand.
We recommend lightly compressing the seeds into the soil, making sure not to bury them. You can either walk on them, use a board or if you are sowing a larger area, rent a seed roller.
Water so that the soil is moist, not soaking wet, until the seedlings are about 4-6" tall. After that, the seedlings will survive on natural rains. If you are experiencing very dry weather, we recommend watering occasionally.
As soon as your order is placed you will receive a confirmation email. You will receive a second email the day your order ships telling you how it has been sent. Depending upon your order date, we may hold your shipment to combine it with other products on your order, if applicable. See our shipping information page for approximate ship dates and more detailed information. My mom's favorite
"I'm from Croatia and my mom loved these flowers but there they are called ""Ladies of the Night"" a much better name than 4 o'clocks!!!😊 they spread easily and open at 4 o'clock 🤪 but have slight color during the day… very hardy!!!"

"I threw seeds various areas, now I have color everywhere."

Absolutely love these - reseeds like crazy!
"I had no idea what I was buying when I got these seeds on a whim several years ago. Since then, my eastern facing Four O'Clocks have come back year after year. They are technically an annual but they reseed very strongly and act like a perennial. They are so happy, so colorful, and make me smile everytime I walk by them in the evenings. I have them between the house and front pathway in about a 2' wide garden area. I tie them up gently to keep them from falling over, they are so prolific and heavy. They grow to about 5' tall and 4' wide. One of my most favorite random plants in my garden. Zone 5b on a dripline, garden soil mixed with organic compost and mulched."

I will plant more!
"I received many compliments on my front yard"
