Bellaâ„¢ Bluegrass Grass Plugs for shade and semi-shade are a truly revolutionary new dwarf turf bluegrass that requires 10-20% less water than traditional bluegrass. Bella Bluegrass has excellent shade tolerance (up to 80%) and doesn't require mowing as the grass blades only to grow to a height of 2 to 3 inches.

Excellent grass

"Very easy to plant large areas"

Very healthy looking plugs !

"I was very happy to see such healthy looking plugs! I did purchase the auger drill bit, but the drill size is too small. So you have to wiggle and make larger hole to effectively give plug enough room to be planted. After several weeks. Plugs seem to be adapting well in the lawn"

I highly recommend

"We had an unusual winter 23/24, and large amounts of my grass died. I had reseeded with some success, and supplemented with these plugs. They really filled in the gaps, and were hardly noticeable within a week. I'm not sure I'd start a whole lawn from these, but they definitely worked for my situation."

BELLA™ BLUEGRASS GRASS PLUGS

"Do you have to remove your old weeds and grass to plant the plugs for BELLA™ BLUEGRASS GRASS Pugs?"

Not that shade tolerant

"I didn't buy the grass plugs from High Country Gardens. I just decided to write a review because it's been a few years. I planted my plugs in the spaces between flagstones in a patio under a linden tree. I left fairly wide gaps between the stones so there would be good space for grass. The first couple years they did great. From then on it was slowly downhill. I think as the tree grew it got to pretty much full shade. The grass all died from the area closest to the tree. It's still growing in the area that gets some sun. I think if you get half sun this will work. Also, it does not stop growing at 2-3 inches. It keeps growing like any other bluegrass."

Love this grass

"I experimented with this grass by planting it in a limited area to see how it would over winter in our harsh Minnesota weather. It survived beautifully. Last year (year 3), we had high temperatures and drought. I had some loss this spring. Kept it well watered and it's coming back. It grows so fast, I'm sure I'll have a thick lawn again. Ordered more and planted it this year. Terrific plant!"

Looking great in difficult dog traffic area

"I had previously purchased the Dog Tuff grass plugs which worked great when I lived in another state and was disappointed that was not recommended for my current zone. I have a very shaded lot and needed a ground cover that would stand up to dog traffic. I planted the Bella Blue grass plugs at the bottom of stairs that my dog goes out to the yard in full shade with little expectation that they would all survive. It's been about 2 months and they look great. All the plugs survived, even ones that went flying when he ran over them right after planting. I found one grass plug completely dried out and brown in a distant location and rather than tossing it I replanted it. It has new green blades coming out and the other plugs are spreading rapidly. Super happy with this purchase!!"

We are pleased with your Bella plugs

"We used the Bella plugs in shady areas where our lawn was weak. We installed 2 trays last spring and 2 more this year. Not one plug has died and all seem to be thriving. Great Product."

Bella Blue is a lovely grass with a little effort

"Bella Blue is a special grass. Took me several years to cover my whole yard. Preparing and planting a section at at time. First thing is that you need to know is that you need to MOW it really really short when you first put it in. I put the mower on the lowest setting and start mowing every weeks, usually around two or three weeks after planting. If you don't mow it short, it will stay as one small clump and never spread. Once established, It generally keeps out all the weeds really well, except I have a creeping spurge problem, and the two seem to have a symbiotic relationship, and I've finally found a week killer that will finally take it out. Now that I'm seven years on my oldest section, I have to brag that I mow it twice a year. and it looks great. Found that the dark green started to fade around four years in. But found a solution, I spread coffee grounds over the faded sections, and the color darkens up. Fertilizer never darkened it, just made it need to be mowed monthly. My biggest problem is root eating grubs. I do a pull test to see if the grass is munched off, then do a soaking of Dawn Dishwashing Soap, and it seems to stop their damage, and the section refills within a month or two. It is a trade off. I don't like to mow but don't mind the other tasks, so I'm happy with the trade off. It does take a bit of effort to maintain, but is worth the effort."
