Perfect for my needs

"The five rhizomes that I put in the ground about 7 months ago now each look like three plants instead of one. I picked this collection for the vibrance of the colors, and the fact that they’re all updated versions of the traditional iris colors from my childhood. Reblooming is a bonus. I also didn’t realize that they start blooming at different times, so I’m going to have new blooms coming on for months. ‘Rockstar’ is exactly as pictured. ‘Stellar Lights’ is a spectacularly deep purple. Looking forward to seeing the rest!"

Gorgeous and hardy!

"Fantastic irises! Offer big color with very low maintenance. I am totally in love with that dark royal blue! Haven't had time to see if they really do rebloom, but very pleased that they have survived an extra nasty winter with some negative temperatures in a highly exposed place. They are also super drought tolerant. I plan on adding more in the rough n' tough places between sidewalk and fence and sidewalk and road--my only problem is picking colors!"

Rootstock leaves something to be desired.

"If you watch HCG's bearded iris video, you see a beautiful 3 inch rhizome, with over a dozen, hardy and healthy primary roots. I understand they will use a model specimen, but the example rhizome was exceptionally more developed / vigorous relative to the ones I received. I ordered this collection and three other individual iris germanic for a total of 8 rhizomes. I've included a picture that includes each rhizome ordered. The first point was that there was a massive inconsistency in the size of the rhizomes, with the smallest measuring less than one inch across its widest dimension (Final Episode), and the largest about two inches (Sugar Blues). The second point is that the roots were not vigorous at all. Much fewer primary roots than in the video, with a much greater concentration of secondary roots that appear to be rotting rather than drying. Having just split my own irises, it feels as if these were taken from an overcrowded plant, resulting in the poor root health. That said, the rhizome itself seems quite hardy. Firm, no signs of rot or pests, and with that beautiful color striation near the base of the fan. Ultimately, the quality of the rhizome itself is most important, and because I received mine so early in the season (before Aug 15!) I have no doubt that they'll have time to develop roots and survive the Zone 5b winter. Having pre-ordered my rhizomes all the way back in May and seeing the rhizome, I guess I was just expecting a more robust root."
