Calamintha nepeta ‘Montrose White’ (Lesser Calamint) is a charming perennial with an airy cloud-like effect that adds softness and movement to rock gardens and borders. A profusion of small, pure white flowers blooms from early summer to fall, attracting bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects. The flowers are complemented by soft green, finely textured foliage that produce a calming minty aroma.
‘Montrose White’ is a versatile garden plant due to its compact size and long blooming period. It functions beautifully as an edging plant along pathways or borders and can be grown in containers to add a touch of elegance to patios and balconies. ‘Montrose White’ thrives in full sun to partial shade in well-drained soil. It prefers even moisture, and supplemental water during dry spells, but is drought tolerant once established. Deadhead spent flowers for additional blooms and cut back to the ground in fall to promote healthy growth next season.
The species Calamintha nepeta is perennial herb of the mint family that is native to Europe and the Mediterranean region. Plants generally do not perform well in the deep South below USDA Zone 7.
