Manzanita growth

"Arrived in great shape and planted in a newly formed rock garden in the middle of a large paver patio. As it grows, it will receive light shade from the western sun via a chilopsis tree as growing instructions suggested. It's been in about 2 months and is showing lots of new growth, faster than I had anticipated, but has been receiving regular light watering with a gravel mulch. Already survived freezing and 80 deg. temperatures, but is very healthy in zone 7."

Unfortunately, all of my plants

"Unfortunately, all of my plants arrived as we were hit with unseasonably hot weather (90's) and I planted all four of these out of fear of them dying in their pots. All four are planted in full sun on the top of a small hill that has clay soil and decomposing granite. All four plants have turned brittle and pale green, with some darkening of the leaf tips. I have been hand watering them every other day as I can't tell if they are getting too much or too little water."
