Description

Symphtotrichum novae-angliae 'Honeysong Pink' (New England Aster) is a great way to fill the garden with late season color. Easy to grow, this native perennial hails from the Midwest, where it flourishes in prairies, valleys, and meadows. Its height lends well to the back of a perennial garden bed, where it can act as a cover for other plants whose blooms have faded. It may need staking if floppy, or it may also be pinched back in early summer to encourage a bushier form. 'Honeysong Pink' is also lovely planted in groups in a wildflower garden or meadow where it can naturalize. 'Honeysong Pink' prefers average, well-drained soil in a sunny location with consistent moisture (avoid poorly draining clay soils). Give it a bit of space to avoid powdery mildew, and divide it every few years for best health (and more plants). Asters are deer-resistant pollinator favorite that provide much-needed late-season pollen for bees and butterflies, and later, seed for birds. Plant with Echinacea (Coneflower), Monarda (Bee Balm), Solidago (Goldenrod) and Ornamental Grasses.
