Asclepias tuberosa ‘Western Gold Mix’ (Western Gold Butterflyweed) a late spring bloomer with golden-orange flowers that will attract lots of butterflies. It is a host plant for the Monarch butterfly caterpillar. 'Western Gold' originates from western Colorado and is the best form of Orange Butterflyweed for western gardeners with non-sandy, alkaline soils.

Description

18-20" tall x 10-12" wide. Asclepias tuberosa ‘Western Gold Mix’ (Western Gold Butterfly Weed) is a butterfly magnet with its bright golden-orange flowers in late-spring and early summer. The large, full flower heads of Western Gold Butterfly Weed are held high on big, vigorous plants with substantial deep-green foliage, followed by showy ornamental seed pods. This Milkweed plant is a host for the Monarch butterfly caterpillar and a nectar source for other butterflies. Our plants are grown from seed originally collected in Western Colorado. Eastern forms of this species generally require sandy, acidic soils, which are commonly not found out West. The preferred choice for use in Western areas with drier conditions and alkaline or limestone derived soils (seed grown).
