Description
Early spring blooming. Iris histrioides George is a Mini Iris that is slightly larger in height and flower size than the Iris reticulata varieties. The flowers are a lovely plum-purple color with a touch of yellow and work well in rock gardens, perennial borders and containers. 6" tall.

Very tough!
"The toughest ever! I planted them to add some color while I waited for everything else to fill in…well almost 10 years later, the other plants have come and gone, and these are still going strong! They’ve really filled out, I’m almost thinking that I need to divide. I mean because look, each one has turned into a mini bouquet! These mini iris only bloom for about a week. To extend the interest, plant along with other early spring-blooming bulbs, such as snow crocus, regular crocus, daffodils, rock tulips and hyacinth. I never water or fertilize"
Neighborhood hit!
"Ordered these to try and have a casual spring mix for our Colorado Front Range flower bed. We have heavy clay soil so we had already prepped the front bed for other plants by the time we tossed these little guys in. Rabbits happily munched on crocus buds but left these alone so we ended up with some beautiful pops of color after the snow melted. Had tons of compliments and plenty of ""where did you get those?!"" Will be ordering more for next year because these need to be planted in heavier clumps or in containers to get a major impact."

"Very small! Several did bloom, but did not have much impact. I would put them in pots and closer together next time."
Gorgeous and deep purple
"10 times more beautiful and darkly purple than the photos! Came up after crocus and before tulips. The velvety petals are just indescribably beautiful. No photo could do these justice. They remind me of a festive Chinese dragon costume with lots of fluttering ribbons. They are quite large for such a short plant. I planted last fall, in between slowly spreading groundcover perennials. I figure they could add some quick color now in the first year and in subsequent years they will push up through the filled in foliage of the ground covers. I also sprinkled lawn alternative wildflower mix over the area for the same purpose. These beautiful Iris are a huge hit. I even had a professional photographer ask if they could capture them! I didn't really give them any care to speak of. No soil amendments, mulching or composting. Just planted them in some rather nasty fill dirt in a recently disturbed portion of the yard. then I watered a few times after planting everything. And I watered once or twice when the spring was particularly dry and hot. They are thriving alongside cold hardy evergreen ice plant, creeping germander, Greek yarrow and other water wise plants, to give you an idea of their needs. In other words, very tough! :-)"
