SNOWMASS® Phlox

Phlox bifida SNOWMASS® (Cleft Phlox), also known as Sand Phlox, is a broadleaf deciduous perennial that forms dark evergreen mats of foliage. It is covered with a mass of unique V-shaped white petals in the spring. This plant requires good drainage. It grows in rocky ravine areas or sandy soils in its native habitat. This versatile groundcover adapts to various soil types and sun exposures and is excellent for preventing erosion in rocky and sandy gardens.

Native to the central United States, this charming plant supports local habitats by providing nectar for butterflies, skippers and moths. Caterpillars and other beneficial insects feed on the flowers and developing seeds. Phlox bifida is noted for having excellent resistance to both powdery mildew and root rot if sited in a proper location. Phlox bifida is an excellent spring-blooming phlox for the rock garden, perennial border, cottage garden, wildflower meadow or native plant garden

SNOWMASS® is remarkably easy to grow in full sun or part shade locations. In optimum growing conditions, plants may self-seed, slowly spreading to create large colonies of low-growing native habitat.
