High Country Gardens - Doing Good Through Gardening

Wasatch Community Gardens Partnership

High Country Gardens is proud to partner with Wasatch Community Gardens to provide plants that attract pollinators, save water, and help enrich the lives of gardeners in the Salt Lake City region.

Sustainable Gardening, Together

Our friends at Wasatch Community Gardens envision a community where everyone values and has access to growing and eating healthy and delicious food. Their programming includes education, community gardens, youth and school gardens, and job training programs. We connected with this organization based in the Salt Lake City, Utah area as a connection to our greenhouse in Clinton, Utah.

Since 2023, High Country Gardens has donated over 4,200 plants - and counting - to Wasatch Community Gardens and their network of gardeners!

The plants and bulbs were planted at the Wasatch Community Gardens Campus in Salt Lake City, and at a number of community gardens and school gardens supported by the organization. These donated plants bring beauty, joy, and pollinators to the gardens!

Some plants have been added to their Grateful Tomato Garden, one of their oldest community gardens. The Grateful Tomato Garden is over ½ acre in size, and home to their Youth Gardening Program, where kids can come to learn how to grow plants and vegetables.

Xeriscaping, waterwise practices, and sustainable gardening are essential pieces of gardening in Utah's desert climate. The mission of Wasatch Community Gardens is to empower people to grow and eat healthy, organic, local food. Using sustainable gardening practices that work with readily available resources (or a lack of resources, like water) is essential for making gardening accessible. Plus, growing vegetables and fruits requires pollinators - the pollen- and nectar-rich perennials from High Country Gardens will help attract pollinators and other beneficial insects to the gardens.

Gardens are a great space for kids and adults to explore their environment, taste healthy foods, release their creative energy, and experiment with nature. Gardening improves the health, beauty, and overall quality of communities, and allows people to spend time outdoors, exercise, meet neighbors, and gain more self and community reliance, among many other benefits.
