Physostegia (Obedient Plant) - a genus of North American wildflowers.

Preferred growing conditions

• Plant in most soil types including clay. Physostegia prefers to be planted in full to partial sun locations.
• Mulch with common mulching materials except in moist climates where plants should remain un-mulched.
• Obedient plants like moderately to moist soil conditions so regular irrigation is needed to establish and maintain plants in arid climates. Rainfall is generally sufficient in moister Eastern climates.
• Deadheading will help to keep the plants blooming longer into the late summer. Clip off the primary flower spike to encourage new flower buds to form lower on the flowering stem.
• Fertilize lightly in the fall with a half-and-half blend of Yum Yum Mix and good-quality compost.

• Divide in mid-spring if plants are spreading too widely and crowding neighboring plants.
