Description

3-4" tall x 5-7" wide. Mountain Ball Cactus (Pediocactus simpsonii v. minor) is a high-elevation species widely scattered throughout the mountains of CO, northern NM, WY and UT. It blooms in early to mid-spring with rings of pink, coral, white and occasionally light-yellow flowers. Being native to the mountains, Pediocactus requires a climate with cool nights and cold winters. It's best planted in the waterwise garden where it gets some afternoon shade. Slow growing but long- lived, individual plants can be 20 years or older and become impressive balls covered with dense white or golden spines.
