I bought two Major Wheeler honeysuckle plants in the spring and planted them in large containers on my balcony. Both started growing immediately, but I accidentally killed one of them. The other continued on and grew 3-4 feet in the first summer which was more than I expected. Attached is a photo of it still blooming on October 31.

I have three Major Wheeler honeysuckle vines against my back fence. They've been in three years and get more beautiful each year. The hummingbirds are regular visitors.

I bought this plant in 2014 and it arrived the morning I was leaving town for a week. It lived on the window sill for about 3 months sill since April is really not the time to be planting much in southwest Wyoming! I'm not sure how it happened, but I came home one day after I'd planted it, and the plant was 'gone'. Every stem and leaf above the ground was just gone. It put off some new branches and was looking pretty good when whatever critter got it the first time, got it again (?!).... The following spring it started growing again, and I trained it up an old wooden ladder. It made it through the summer without 'disappearing' but only put off a few flowers toward the end of fall. Sadly, that winter, the ladder was blown over in a bad storm, and nearly all of the branches were broken. Last spring, I cut it back, installed a sturdier trellis, and the plant took off again! This time it bloomed wonderfully for most of the summer into fall, with many branches getting to be about 12 ft long. HCG should be proud of this one!

Planted Major Wheeler in a nursery bed until I could get it into it's permanent location. Flowered for a long time last summer, even under drought conditions. Love it:)

I planted immediately upon receipt and even after our Virginia Cold Snap in "April" this is still thriving and I actually think I am have blooms this year.. Can't wait to a little further in the Spring and Summer to see how it turns out. For a beginner like me, I love these vines.. Pretty good in planters and they have a mind of their own.I will post pictures to show the process of these vines in the next couple of days.

Lonicera Major Wheeler is one of several vines that I use to feed and attract hummingbirds. It's a great vine that I use along with Dropmore Scarlet and others.

A stunning addition to the garden!
from Eastern Oregon
This plant is in its second season and already 4 feet tall and blooming profusely! It appears to be quite hardy for zone 5/6. I have it planted next to an arbor trellis and can't wait to see it grow up and over in the coming years. Thanks High Country Gardens!

Fantastic fast grower covered with blooms.
from Bakersfield, CA
I put my lonicera where it could climb up a trellis to hide a fence in back of a man made creek I installed. It is filling in and spreading nicely. It's not quite picture ready, but will be next season. It's the perfect plant for the task. It takes a lot of room, so one needs to be aware of that in planning.

Really Cool Plant

It is in my landscape, it is doing well, except when the deer find it, still it survives if not thrives. Without deer, it would be awesome, not the plants fault.

Major Wheeler Honeysuckle
from Gallup, New Mexico
I live in Gallup, New Mexico where gardening is a challenge. The Major Wheeler had buds on it until Christmas and stayed green all winter. It survives in very cold temps and lots of wind. It is getting a lot fuller on the trellis. A very hardy plant

Merchant response: Good Day Big Rob,We are sorry to hear your Honeysuckle is not growing as quickly as you hoped. While our perennials are slow to start, they can reach mature growth much quicker compared to larger plants you might find locally. Our customers have described the growth rate of our perennials as the first year, they sleep. The second year, they creep and the third year, they leap! Please know we are truly committed to your satisfactions which is why we have our 100% guarantee in place. If this does not meet your expectations in any way, please give us at call and one of our friendly representatives would be more than happy to accommodate! We started planting these 4 years ago and add a few more to an unattractive fenceline each year. Hummingbirds love them, the flowers are beautiful and they are low maintenance.
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
