Why Plant Agave?

Cold-hardy Agave are one of our cacti specialties. These statuesque succulents thrive in hot sun and poor soils where they receive little water. Urban legend said that Agave would take 100 years to bloom, before promptly dying. We now know that the century plant's life cycle is about a quarter that time, but the result is the same: One gorgeous bloom, followed by death. A process known as 'semelparity.' Agave are not kid-safe and with their fierce spines, plant them away from walkways and entrances. All our plants are nursery grown from seeds and cuttings and are not taken from the wild.
