I needed a touch of color added to my front yard. I live in an apartment and we had a small area that only grew weeds. Until I decided to make a small butterfly garden which I'm still adding to it. So I wanted some blues, purples and I found these in the catalog during a sale. After added them in the ground some squirrels came and moved them and ate the others. Luckily these grew back and they look just like the pictures above. Next I added lavender & marigolds to stop the squirrels.

veronica royal candles
It hasn't bloomed, but it has grown well, so I expect that it will bloom this year. Houston's climate is harsh, so many plants focus on getting established in the first year.

About Me Avid Gardener
Comments about High Country Gardens Veronica spicata Royal Candles:
This plant has been a great performer and not picky at all about the ill-planned, neglected corner of the yard where I stuck it as an experiment. It was one of my first purchases from High Country Gardens. We had just started landscaping the property and I really wasn't too familiar with the microclimates in the yard. Anyway, I planted (along with white flowering obedient plant and pink flowering digitalis aka foxglove) in fall 2016 and then mostly forgot about them. These veronica made multiple stems and flowered over and over. Every time I remembered its existence and would give just a little of water, it would respond by re-invigorating the blooming process. I actually really liked the pink, blue and white colors together, they kind of gave an old fashioned cottage garden feel.I planted in a part sun location, alkaline soil. Planted in a small well to hold water as these were on a slope. Then mulched with tree leaves to slowly nourish the soil, retain moisture and hopefully deter the morning glory weeds that were threatening to choke out everything else (the tactic worked fairly well and I weeded around the plants to push back the morning glories once or twice during the growing season). I then watered sporadically.

Great Performer Where Others Failed
from Mt Shasta CA
Brilliant True Blue. Not fussy. Long bloom time. Survives well N CA winters at 3500 feet with frost from Sep to June. Blooms well sun or partial shade. Great plant!

Singin' the blues...
from Chicago, IL
At first I was VERY unhappy when I opened my plant carton and discovered Royal Candles as a replacement plant. Really? Instead of a ground-hugging, 2 incher? So I had to pop it in somewhere and the only spot was in a large (c4 foot) planter. I didn't really pay attention after watering it in during the first week but then, coming home one day and passing the planter, I was stopped in my tracks! There were these blue -- and I mean blue, not wimpy dark lilac passing for blue, not purple near blue, but BLUE! -- spikes. I'm not the only one that loves them -- my bumblebee friends treat this plant like an open bar. As soon as there's an opening somewhere in the gardens, I'll be putting in more. I love seeing drunken bumblebees.

About Me Getting Started
I have bought the product several times!
from Tuttle, OK
These plants are extremely happy in my three rain gardens. They are fairly large and happy with the amount of water they get and bloom throughout the entire summer.
Love this variety!
from Denver CZo
I love this variety and have bought more plants year after year for my garden. They are prolific and very long flowering and quite hardy in our unpredictable Denver cold and heat. Highly recommended! Definitely one of my favorite perennials.

Beautiful Showy Plant
About Me Master Gardener
We live in Zone 6. This is the second year for this plant and it over wintered very well. This year it has produced showy blooms and a significant increase in plant size. A very attractive addition to our landscape.

They dind't bloom last year. All three plants survived a difficult winter that killed a lot of established perennials. Despite a cold spring, they are growing nicely and beginning to bud - they look nice and I'm excited to see them bloom.

Bloomed like crazy all summer starting right after planting
