Blue Grama Grass Hachita (Bouteloua gracilis) is an excellent native turf grass that has good drought tolerance and low maintenance requirements. It grows to a height of 4-12", including its "eyelash-like" seed heads. Mowing is optional, depending on whether an informal meadow look is desired. Hachita is quick to germinate, is excellent for erosion control and drought resistant. Hachita requires full sun, well-drained conditions and thrives in sandy or clay soils.

USDA Hardiness Planting Zones
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low
temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will
survive the winter temperatures in your area.
If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack
of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
Blue Grama Grass Hachita (Bouteloua gracilis) seed is very easy and quick to germinate. Hachita is a vigorous low-water grass seed variety chosen for its ability to fill in quickly and make a dense turf. Seeding Hachita Blue Grama Grass is a very economical way to cover larger areas.
Hachita Blue Grama Grass is a warm season grower and prefers full sun and well-drained soil. It does not do well in shade, in areas with a high water table or with acidic soils. Quite drought-resistant (xeric), it is easy to establish, excellent for erosion control and thrives in both sandy soils and clay!
Growing to a height of 4-12", it is beloved for its "eyelash" seed heads, and needs no mowing if you desire an informal meadow look. For a more turf-type lawn, mow weekly to monthly, depending on the look desired.
We recommend 1 lb per 250 square feet. Preparation of the area to be seeded is similar to preparing for plugs. See Lawn Replacement Instructions for more information. Seeds can be sown beginning in late spring/early summer when night temperatures reach 60 degrees F and continue through the summer. (Also available for order as plugs..)
