Description
Veronica spicata 'Royal Candles' (Speedwell) is a favorite perennial and one of the showiest, longest blooming selections in this genus. A durable plant with a low, compact mat of attractive 2" long leaves, it puts on a stunning display of deep purple-blue flower spikes. 'Royal Candles' is easily cultivated in average garden conditions in sun to part sun locations. A standout bloomer, it colors the garden from late spring into mid-summer. Deadhead the faded flower spikes to show off the plant’s dark green foliage for the rest of the growing season. Cut back in spring. 'Royal Candles' makes a wonderful small-scale edging plant along sidewalks and paths. Try it with Penstemon pinifolius, Aquilegia or Nepeta. Great in containers too!

Second purchase with great results
"I bought a few of these two years ago and they've done wonderfully in the front of a west facing bed. The heat of summer and a few dry spells don't phase them and they bloom with these cute purple spikes all summer long. Best of all, the rabbits and deer seem to leave them alone. This variety isn't very tall and the mature plants are about 10"" across and no more than 12-18"" tall, so they're great at the front of taller plants with pretty bright green foliage. I bought more to fill out the area and the new plants were healthy and are doing as well as my first batch."
