Slow to establish but worth the wait.

"This low sumac took 4 years to take off in a bed that has irrigation but is almost pure sand soil. I garden in hot desert summers over 100 degree heat without the plants burning and come winter they are exposed to freezing winds and snow. 4 years later, they are gorgeous. Glossy leaves in summer and stunning yellow and maroon fall color. Be patient, the wait is worth it."

Doing great so far!

"I received this plant in great condition and planted into my raised bed within days. My area has dense clay soil, so I amended the hole with garden soil, perlite and compost. This plant has been steadily growing and looks very healthy. I can't wait to see the colorful leaves in the fall!"

Great Sumac

"I've used this to cover areas that are just mulch. I'm trying to be conscious of a drought so I only water weekly. Even with reduced water they have doubled in size. My ones in full sun are loving it. My part shade plants are still doing well, just smaller."

Blowing my mind!!

"Between the road and my 3-rail fence, there are 90x18 feet of dry, weedy, rocky no-man's zone that have always looked lackluster. Last Fall, I reached my breaking point and vowed to slay the sad, weedy beast once and for all. 50 of these beauties, a whole lot of digging, amending, mulching, drip-installing and begging the bindweed gods to look upon me favorably later, I have 50 (two didn't survive and were promptly replaced at no charge to me by HCG) thriving Gro-Low Sumacs making my dreams come true. You may think I'm exaggerating for effect but I'm not. Mass plantings of glossy leaves are not to be taken for granted in these parts."

"I loved how the plants were mailed at the right time to plant."

Still very small

"It is growing BUT it is still very very small."

A winner, but slow growing

"This shrub is slow growing, but is well established. I've seen it in the local area (high desert at 7,000 ft), and even have one growing in the uncultivated part of our yard. The leaves are nicely shaped and color well in autumn. The plant resists gophers and rabbits, which are a real problem here. It has an attractive texture and takes well to being shaped. It's found growing with aspen, which is where it's planted now in this yard. It keeps the ground cool for the aspen roots."
