Description

24" tall x 18" wide (cutting propagated). An exciting new form of Agastache cana that appeared as a single outstanding plant in a group of garden plants grown from habitat collected seed. 'Rosita' has been the subject of much comment in our Santa Fe display gardens because of its profusion of dense, deep rose-pink flower spikes and extremely bushy semi-dwarf growth habit.

Earlier blooming than regular Agastache cana plants, 'Rosita's' spikes have about 50% more flowers per spike than is normal; the effect is striking and noticeable from a great distance. Plant in well-drained soil, and water deeply but infrequently once established.

Planting & Care

Tips for growing Agastache

Agastache are sun loving plants with aromatic foliage and flowers. They bloom from mid-summer into early fall and are resistant to rabbits and deer.

Agastache need lean, well-drained soils, prefer gravel mulches, and appreciate deep but infrequent watering after their second growing season

  1. Provide a fast draining soil that's naturally low in fertility, Don't plant into clay soils.
  2. Plant in full hot sun.
  3. Just a few handfuls of compost in the planting hole is enough. Don't plant into a rich, highly amended soil..
  4. Fertilize the Agastache just once in fall with Yum Yum Mix.
  5. New transplants need regular irrigation their first growing season to establish themselves. Watering can be reduced greatly during the second growing season when the plants have matured.

To improve winter-hardiness, and encourage re-seeding, leave the stems intact over the winter. In mid-spring, remove old stems just above the new foliage, about 4 or 5 inches above ground level.

If your conditions don't lend themselves to growing Agastache in your garden, they do well planted in containers.

Both plants were much smaller

"Both plants were much smaller than I had expected and arrived in very poor condition. Most all of the dirt had shaken loose from the roots and was all over the box as the plastic was not secured over the top of the soil. I tried to put them back together as best I could but basically was planting bare roots. One did not survive. The other has a couple small sprigs alive but it is touch and go. I would appreciate a replacement."

So far so good with Rosita Agastache

"Planted in Spring of 2024. Photo is early August 2024. I have hopes for this plant because i've had bad luck with Agastaches in general. First season in the ground and it has a lot of blooms for its still small size after a very slow sluggish start. If it survives the winter I expect great things from this plant. Poorly Packaged, DOA on arrival

"I have purchased a number of hyssops from you in the past and they have thrived. However, these appeared to be dead on arrival and bone dry. I put them into pots into my plant nursery. One still appears dead and one is in the ICU and still has a bit of green. Purchased 4 plants (2 hyssop and 2 grass) that arrived in this shipment. I have received multiple shipments from you this spring and the others are thriving. However, all four of these probably won't make it despite tender, loving care."

"Rosita is my favorite Agastache. It's bold magenta color makes it a show stopper in my garden. The fact that it blooms in late summer is a bonus because it provides continuous color in the garden as the summer perennials begin to fade. We grow this in Zone 4 and it has come back strong after an extended winter of very cold temperatures and record setting amounts of snow. It has been very easy to grow and maintain. ."
