Description

Pine Scented Rose (Rosa pulverulenta) was first spotted by Chief Horticulturist David Salman at the Denver Botanic Gardens where its over-the-top late summer display of orange-red hips captured his full attention. Salman brought this stunning little rose into his own garden, where he came to appreciate its fragrant, single pink spring flowers and compact size. An excellent plant for creating habitat, the thorny stems provide a protected nesting spot for songbirds and the hips offer a colorful food source for fruit-eating animals. This durable rose needs no extra attention in the landscape and grows well in most any soil in a full sun position. Companion plants include Partridge Feather (Tanacetum) and Jerusalem Sage (Phlomis).
