Description

18" tall x 12" wide (cutting propagated). "I was thrilled when I came across this distinctive form some years ago," said chief horticulturist David Salman. "With its long, graceful, nearly-red tubular flowers, it really stood out among its orange flowered neighbors." Penstemon pinifolius 'Nearly Red' also has nice evergreen, needle-like foliage. Shear off faded flower spikes to keep the plant's tidy shape. Commonly known as Nearly Red Pineleaf Beardtongue, it is summer blooming and a nice companion to hybrid French Lavender (x intermedia varieties) and yellow Coreopsis 'Jethro Tull'. Easily grown in average garden soil.
