Gaillardia aristata 'Amber Wheels' (Blanket Flower), was originally discovered growing in Westcliff, CO by Larry Vickerman. Seed was given to Jelitto Perennial Seed where it was bred to produce this beautiful strain. It is an extremely showy and long-lived cultivar. Produces an abundance of large flowers with frilled, deep-yellow petals that surround an amber-red center. Drought resistant/drought tolerant plant (xeric).

Description

30" tall x 18" wide (seed propagated). Happy are the gardeners with 'Amber Wheels' rolling in their gardens. This dazzling blanket flower, was originally discovered growing in Westcliff, CO by Larry Vickerman. Seed was given to Jelitto Perennial Seed where it was bred to produce this beautiful strain. It is an extremely showy and long-lived cultivar that is an improvement over our previously offer variety 'Indian Yellow.' Maturing by its second year in the garden, the plant produces an abundance of large flowers with frilled, deep-yellow petals that surround an amber-red center . Keep deadheaded to prolong bloom. Grows readily in well-drained garden soils of average fertility; avoid heavy clay.
