Description

Ocotillo (Fouquieria splendens) is a fabulous desert plant, renowned for its brilliant spring display of red tubular flowers and thorny cane-like branches. The species is found in both the warm winter Sonoran desert and the cold winter Chihuahuan desert. The flowers are a magnet for hummingbirds, the plant's natural pollinator. The plant leafs out in brief periods of moisture but is deciduous (drops its leaves) when it's very hot and dry. Our plants are grown from seed collected in the Chihuahuan desert of southern NM and is cold hardy to 0° F (Possibly colder when well established).
