Akebono Double Darwin Tulip (Tulipa Double Darwin hybrid ‘Akebono’) lights up the mid-spring garden with pillowy blossoms of golden-yellow petals edged in red. Patches of red and green shift through the petals as well, giving ‘Akebono’ an almost ethereal presence. Standing on sturdy 20-22" stems, the long lasting 3 1/2" wide flowers make them the perfect choice for a cheerful spring, indoors and out. Pollinators will thank you for ‘Akebono’!

Akebono Double Darwin Tulip (Tulipa Double Darwin hybrid ‘Akebono’) could pass for a peony with its golden layered blossoms penciled with red. Petals may be splashed with reds and greens as well. Sweetly fragrant, ‘Akebono’ comes to us from Japan where its name means dawn or daybreak. A sport of Darwin hybrid tulip ‘Jewel of the Spring’, ‘Akebono’ has the hardy nature of Darwin tulips. Plant them where they will get at least 6 hours of sun in enriched, well-drained soil. At 20-22" tall, with large colorful blossoms and bright green foliage, plant them in groups where their graceful shape and shading create a shimmering delight of color and form. For cut flowers, harvest when the bud is full and mostly colored for long lasting blooms. Tulips continue growing for a while in a vase, so trim them a bit shorter than you ultimately want or re-trim them as needed. 20-22" tall x 6-10" wide.
