Chinese Lantern Lily/Christmas Bells (Sandersonia aurantiaca) have eye-catching blooms that add a touch of whimsy to a late spring/early summer garden. Orange/yellow delicate flowers cover the plant with thimble-sized bells, highlighting other colors in the garden with its harmonious nature. 20-30" tall. Chinese Lantern Lily or Christmas Bells(Sandersonia aurantiaca) is unrivaled at creating a second look with its nodding bright tangerine-orange colored lanterns. Flowering in late spring to early summer, Sandersonia aurantiaca are unique plants are native to South Africa and will bloom on Christmas there, giving it its other common name. A unique cut flower, it will last up to three weeks in a vase of water.
Plant one between perennials for an unrivaled combination. The stems are wispy, so planting with perennials will help support them. Growing to 20-30 inches, they are a knockout planted with our late spring blooming Lavenders such as ‘Pastor’s Pride’ and ‘Royal Velvet’. Hardy in zones 9-10, grow as an annual in colder areas.
