Description

Rattlesnake Master (Eryngium yuccifolium) is a perennial wildflower of the Midwestern prairies and is a beautifully unusual plant with white, ball-shaped flowers and long strap-like foliage. The flowers are highly attractive to native bees, honeybees, bumblebees and butterflies.  Seed-eating songbirds also relish the seeds as they ripen in late summer /early fall.  A low water wildflower once established, this plant mixes well with native ornamental grasses such as Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium), Blue Grama Grass (Bouteloua 'Blonde Ambition'), Prairie Dropseed (Sporobolus heterolepis) and other prairie species such as Prairie Sage (Salvia azurea), Purple Coneflower (Echinacea) and Goldenrod (Solidago).
