Description

Macarena Foxtail Lily (Eremurus), sometimes called Desert Candle, is an easy to grow perennial that thrives in a full sun location with well-drained, compost-enriched soil. Its lovely light pink to apricot flowers with yellow centers shimmer on tall stately stalks that stand tall in the late spring garden. Plant at a depth of 6", fanning out the roots as wide as necessary. Water moderately – they don’t like soggy soil. When in bloom, they can be harvested for long-lasting cut flowers. Hummingbirds, butterflies and other beneficial insects are all drawn to Foxtail Lily. Deer and rabbits avoid it. Try planting ‘Macarena’ on the edge of a vegetable garden to attract pollinators and repel pests. After blooming has finished, trim off the flower stalks. By mid-summer the plant will yellow and move into dormancy. It’s okay to remove the spent foliage once it’s yellowed. Mark the spot so you won’t disturb the roots and look forward to more fantastic flowers next year. 6-8 ft. tall x 1-2 ft. wide.
