Description

18 - 24" tall x 24 to 30" wide. Leadplant (Amorpha canescens) that covers itself with hundreds of butterfly-attracting steel-blue flowers. This small-growing native shrub brings a welcome splash of color to the mid-summer garden. Our selected form of Amorpha canescens is grown from seed collected at an elevation of 7,500 ft. Plants from this collection are a bit smaller than other forms and the fern-like foliage of this collection turns gray-green in color by mid-season. Being a legume, Leadplant adds nitrogen to the soil and makes an excellent companion plant for many prairies and other native species.
