Description

Allium splendens 'Deep Pink' is an outstanding fall bloomer, providing a cloud of small, dark pink flowers in early fall. The round flower heads are held over deciduous, chive-like foliage. A carefree grower that multiplies to form small showy colonies of plants. Allium splendens will attract numerous bees and butterflies when they most need the nectar. This Fall Blooming Korean Onion was originally collected along the coast of South Korea by plant explorer/Heronswood Nursery founder Dan Hinkley, this is a selection of the species chosen for its deep pink flowers. Allium splendens is not a bulb forming species and is propagated by dividing the chive-like plants during the growing season and potting the divisions. This small plant won't re-seed itself or crowd out other plants and is an excellent companion for other fall blooming perennials.
