I planted this garden in front of my house last year on the left half of my yard. It looks great. All of the plants did great except for the Maximilian's sunflower. Replaced that one and am waiting to see if it will go this year. It needs to do its thing since it's the centerpiece of my garden.

I purchased a pre-planned garden in hopes of getting an appropriate mixture of quality plants. For various reasons the Habitat Hero garden didn't meet these expectations. First, two substitutions were made without providing any information on what was substituted for what (i.e. where the substitutes were to be planted) and no pruning or maintenance information for those plants. Second, while most of the plants did quite well this year five of the plants failed. One, penstemon pinifolius I believe, arrived "sleeping" and never even sprouted growth. Four more, all in the front row, quickly wilted and died. Third, hopes of having nice visual arrangement were not met since the blond ambition grass quickly overwhelmed the adjacent colorful plants even though I planted everything farther apart than in the provided plan. I had been willing to purchase a relatively expensive pre-planned garden based on previous experience with your jumbo waterwise garden in 2014. I planted half of an area with your garden and the other half with locally purchased drought tolerant plants. None of your plants failed that year while approximately one third of the local plants needed to be replace this year. But paying the higher prices for High Country Garden plants is not justified if when about one third of the Habitat Hero Garden also need replacement in the first year.

About Me Getting Started
Comments about High Country Gardens Habitat Hero Birdwatcher Pre-Planned Garden:
I planted this garden in May 2017. Although the lavender died almost immediately, the rest of the plants thrived and grew all summer. My soil is very heavy clay, and I amended it heavily (kitchen compost, mushroom compost, cotton burr compost). The only plant, besides the lavender, that I am worried about is the sand cherry. It did not grow as vigorously as the other plants, and would periodically loose its leaves - although that might be due to the curious rabbits. The soil might just be too clay-y still for a sand cherry! Otherwise I'm very happy with the selection and distribution of plants and look forward to seeing them grow in the spring.

Works best if you have the recommended space to put them all together. the design is sound. All the plants do well at our high altitude location.
A beautifu assortment of heights, textures and colors
from Cedar City, Utah
Selected this assortment for a difficult zone (5600' altitude and shorter growing season). The plants were very small but grew well over the summer and got lots of hummingbird visits. Hoping they all survived the winter and will shoot up again this spring.

Brought in the Hummingbirds
from Tehachapi, CA
This was a great way for me to fill in a garden with water wise plants. We have benefited from the Beautiful flowers and the increase in wildlife. The hummingbirds visited every day once blooms began. Not too many butterflies, though will see what happens next year. The one thing, I wasn't aware of when the order was placed, was the type of soil in the garden, and what was best for the plant. With discussions with the experts I spoke to at High Country Garden, I put in the hard work to improve drainage, which the penstemon, agastache, salvia, lavender, and sand cherry benefit and possibly require. Planted in May and we had blooms by July, and by the end of summer most of the plants grow to nearly full size, some are slower growing and may take another couple years to reach full size, though am very satisfied with this collection of plants and how they are thriving. Hopefully, will have time to top dress this fall, to assist the root development over winter, and even healthier and fuller plants next year.

This garden makes Me look good!
from Rio Rancho, NM
I planted this garden in the spring and boy did it take off! It grew so well, and so fast I had wished I planted the plants a little further apart. It turned the biggest eyesore in my garden into one of the loveliest.

Great for Bees, Butterflys and Hummingbirds
from Merced. CA
These plants are surprisingly heat resistant. We are in Central CA and had high temps over 100 degrees much of the summer. Most grew really well, others (Ribes Crandell and Hesperaloe parviflora) very slowly. One was dormant and never grew. Windbreaker grew most impressively. They were planted Spring 2015 and are dormant now, I have high hopes for next year.
Showy and great value for your money
from Longview, TX
So many plants for the money. All plants arrived healthy and grew very quickly. I cannot wait until next spring, when everything will grow larger.
I love this garden
I planted my garden as soon as it was shipped and it took off right away. One dormant plant never revived and was quickly and happily replaced. IThe garden is only a few months old and is already the prettiest place in my yard. I love it and will deffinately be ordering more preplanned gardens from High Country Gardens
Looks very nice!
from Denver CO
We purchased 2 of these gardens for a large area of our front yard. We've purchased other pre-planned gardens from High Country Gardens in the past and always like that they take the guesswork out of what will work nice together for a given size area. The only con for this garden is that there were a couple of plants included that proved to be extra tasty for the neighborhood rabbits. Also, a few of the plants did not come back this spring (they were planted last spring), but we are getting replacements for them without any hassle.

I like the plants. The design is very attractive and the plants when in bloom attract bees and hummingbirds
