Jone's Bluestar is a western native plant grown for its pale-blue flowers that cover the plant in late spring. Deep-rooted, this xeric perennial is extremely rabbit and deer resistant and requires full hot sun in poor, well-drained soil. A 2011 Plant Select winner. Drought resistant/drought tolerant plant (xeric).
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low
temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will
survive the winter temperatures in your area.
If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack
of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
2011 Plant Select Winner. 12" tall x 10-12" wide (seed propagated). Jones' Bluestar, native to Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah, is a beautiful species with an upright vase-shaped form, large clusters of tubular, ivory-colored flowers and finely textured foliage with pleasing yellow fall color. Patience is needed while this plant sizes up in your garden. But this slow-growing native, once established, is very long-lived and showy, just like fellow native species Clematis scottii. Jones' Bluestar grows well in a wide range of soil types and makes a fine companion for other western waterwise plants, such as Penstemon.
