8-10' tall x 6' wide. Sporobolus wrightii Windbreaker Los Lunas form is the Paul Bunyan of our native ornamental grasses, its giant size surpassing even Cortaderia (Pampas grass) in stature. Originally bred for use as a non-woody windbreak in western commercial vegetable fields, Los Lunas Form of Giant Sacaton Grass is larger and has much showier flowering spikes than is exhibited in its unimproved native form. This selection is a great substitute for other large growing Old World grasses that can be invasive. With its spectacular summer-blooming flower spikes, this giant form of Sporobolus can serve as a specimen plant to enjoy or may be planted in a row to create a living fence or windbreak. Cut back old stems to 2-3” above ground-level in mid-spring. Divide every third or fourth year. (Seed propagated.)
Flat of 9 plants will cover 54 square feet when planted together
