1. Choose a spot on your property that receives at least 6 hours of sun per day.
2. Prepare your soil by clearing the area of all existing growth.
3. Mix the Wildflower seeds with sand for better visibility.
4. After spreading the seed, we recommend compressing the seed into the soil.
5. After planting, give the area a good water.

Love the notion of having this plant. However the plant in the 2.5 inch pot are tiny fail and small. Plant arrived and had about an inch of growth and two small grass looking leaves of growth. Had almost no root system babies this plant along all summer till it finally died. I would have never sent such a small unrooted plant to my customers. Avoid all plants from HCG in a 2.5 in pot.

Comments about High Country Gardens Liatris punctata:
I thought the plant died over the summer, its first, so I thought I'd dig it up this fall and stick it in a pot (couldn't hurt, right?!). Well, it has just sprouted new growth, so maybe it will come back and I can try again this summer!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I love Liatris. It blooms in late Summer and Fall. I've seen 6 monarchs on one blossom. the Bees and other pollinators love it too.

I love this plant for my sandy dry south-facing hillside. It has flourished with minimal water after getting it established. Regular watering is important initially, though I have tapered off. I love that it is self-sowing close to the parent plants, and look forward to a substantial stand down the line.
Hot/dry hillside. Grew very slow and no bloom. Maybe next year (if it comes back)
Gorgeous bee magnets - have patience...
from North Texas
The first year that I planted these, they did not put on much top growth and they had one very scrawny bloom. (I almost dug them up at the end of the season!) Fast forward 1 year, and they are gorgeous! Lots of healthy top growth and multiple multi-flower spikes per plant. Covered with native bees. So glad I did not dig them up that first year!

These were included in a pre-planned garden. I gave up after replacing them 3 times. The squirrels loved them for some reason and would dig them up and leave them all over the yard. After the third time, I decided to replace them with something else.

Beautiful healthy plants and I will order more. However, two of the plants sent were not punctata, but other related species, not native to my area. They are fine and healthy, still, but wrongly included in my order.

Maybe Doesn't Like My Soil
from Parker, Colorado
We had an unusually wet summer, so maybe these guys were just mad about the moisture and soggy soil, but they didn't really do anything this year. I've purchased Liatris before from HCG and they did great at my old house. I bought more last fall for the new house and unfortunately they just didn't perform. The rabbits broke them off at the soil in early spring, and when they finally came back they only got about 6" tall and were very spindley. I'd still recommend them because like I said they performed very well at my old house.

I'm in zone 5. I bought list last fall. It arrived small and weak. Everything else in my garden is growing like a weed, and both of the Liatris Punctata I bought have not come up.

About Me Getting Started
This didn't take off the first year, and looked dead by fall. After several cold, 14 degree nights I was shocked to see it start growing this spring. It's been growing for about a month and is 5" tall. I hope it will flower this year.
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
