(10" tall x 12-15" wide) 'Shell Pink Improved' Lamium, also called Deadnettle, is a strong growing groundcover with textured heart-shaped leaves streaked with white. The bi-colored foliage blooms with light pink flowers from mid-spring to late summer. It is an easy-to-grow groundcover and good for erosion control if needed. A nice choice for bulb areas too, Lamium makes a pretty background to spring’s bulbs, and looks nice in containers where it can drape over the edge of a pot. This cultivar and other deadnettles are extremely useful for planting dry, shaded sections of the garden, and are especially useful as a lawn substitute. The stems root as they grow, forming a weed-resistant mat of showy foliage. Cut to the ground in early to mid-spring to keep the foliage looking fresh and encourage plenty of flowers to appear. The plant grows in any soil type and is especially successful when planted in clay. Recommended shade loving companions include Aquilegia (Columbine), Heuchera (Coral Bells) and Festuca 'Siskiyou Blue' (Festuca Grass). Deer and rabbit resistant, it’s low maintenance and hardy in zones 3-8. This is a new form found in HCG Chief Horticulturist David Salman's Santa Fe greenhouse.
