Unlike most varieties that have wispy flowering stems, this English-bred beauty has a sturdy, more tightly upright habit. Grow it in full sun and in spots that aren't too dry. It's a wonderful companion plant for native Salvias like FlowerKisser™ Dark Shadows Sage, and medium-sized ornamental grasses such as 'Blonde Ambition' Blue Grama Grass and Undaunted® Ruby Muhly Grass.

Tips For Growing Gaura (Appleblossom Grass or Beeblossom)

Gaura (Appleblossom Grass or Beeblossom) is a genus of North American wildflowers.
Preferred growing conditions:

  • Plant in a fast draining, infertile soil with full sun. Avoid clay soils. Mulch with gravel or not at all.
  • Water regularly the first growing season to establish the plant; thereafter, infrequent but deep watering is adequate.
  • The plants are naturally long blooming and deadheading is not necessary.
  • Fertilize lightly in the fall with a half and half blend of Yum Yum Mix and good quality compost.

Special comments:

  • Gaura should be left standing over the winter to improve cold hardiness. Cut back in mid-spring to just above ground level.
