A carefree little succulent native plant, Fame Flower has quarter-sized rose-violet flowers that open in the afternoon heat. A willing re-seeder, these little plants gently colonize their garden site and bloom all summer. Drought resistant/drought tolerant plant (xeric).
Planting Tips for Phemeranthus calycinum (Talinum) Judith's Favorite
These plants won’t begin to grow until warm summer weather has arrived. The long thin string-like roots are brittle and do not like to be disturbed when transplanting, so don’t scratch out the root ball. When transplanting while it is still cold, water the plant thoroughly only once. Continued watering during cold weather will rot the roots. Don’t start to water regularly until the weather warms and the plants begin to grow.

Comments about High Country Gardens Phemeranthus calycinum (Talinum) Judith's Favorite:
I wish High Country Gardens would give better information about the plants they sell. After blooming beautifully all summer, in a pot, though all sorts of heat and light conditions, my plants (I bought 3) began turning color and dying! I thought maybe they were getting too much water or something, so I dug them up. After searching through the internet, I finally found one mention of the fact that the plants go dormant as early as October! Really, would it have been that hard to write an extra line on the description?!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Astonishing little thing, beautiful flowers float on a tall thin stem. If you walk in your garden in the evening, there it is! Very tough, survived St Louis winter in a 6" deep, 6" wide deck railing planter. Seeded itself like crazy there, much less so in the garden. Blooms early and constantly. If you love the delicate, the unusual, you will love it. As one reviewer said "Adorable".

About Me Master Gardener
Planted in desert landscape in 6-12 inches of unwashed sand and pea gravel. Bloomed last summer with little watering. Started spring growth this month, 55 inches of rain this year, no problems!

I loved these little pink flowers, and the plant seemed to grow quickly. Unfortunately I planted them in a corner spot where neighborhood dogs and my bad parking might have been their demise. After I planted them, I read where they can be like an invasive plant sometimes, and spread too easily...on the other hand, they are lovely, like many spreaders.

Love this plant
from Ann Arbor, MI
This plant blooms all summer. It isn't very big so needs to be in an area that a low growing plant has easy visibility. The color is wonderful!

This plant doesn't look like much when you get it. However, it does grow into a beautiful plant and the flowers are amazing when they bloom. it is now May 4, 2015 and I still haven't seen any new growth for the second season. I am hopeful to see something soon, I hope.

The most wonderful little plant!

This little plant doesn't look like much at first, but it was in bloom and a darling little plant for most of the summer. I bought only one and it would look even better with a bunch of them grouped together. Don't pass up this. You might think it's a wimpy little plant but it is a delight.

Planted this in a terrible spot, hellstrip rockgarden between a south-facing stucco wall and a sidewalk that bhrns up some of the toughest plants, amazing blooms all summer and fall. Hot pink that burns like fire waiting by the front door when I get off work. Definately deserves more use!
