Exclusive. Verbena ‘Annie!’ is a truly cold hardy, long-lived, long blooming perennial Verbena. The lightly fragrant, lavender-pink flowers start up in mid-spring and are continuous until hard frost in October. Brought into cultivation as an heirloom plant from a Minnesota garden. Great as a large scale groundcover. Drought resistant/drought tolerant plant (xeric).

I bought two of these a couple years ago. One died over the winter, but the other is doing great! The one that died dropped enough seeds that is coming back slowly. Both are in an area with afternoon shade. They bloom pretty much all summer if you keep them dead-headed.

This species seems to be of marginal hardiness in zone 4, since spring has not arrived I can't tell you how this particular cultivar has fared over winter. I have had the species persist in past gardens for five or six years. An introduction of this species in my present garden a few years ago was not successful.

Reviewed this above, a really wonderful and hardy plant, spreading beautifully and blooming very early. But wanted to add that on 4/18 pm a 73 high day, in the evening the flowers were intensely fragrant, even to an elderly nose. I qualified the weather and time of the fragrance because for me fragrance is a here and gone sort of thing, but will try to check at other times and days for fragrance.
Wonerful plant, bright clear pink
from St Louis MO
Out of at least 5 other verbenas that were supposed to be hardy here in zone 6a, this is the only one that lived through the winter. It is blooming right now, early April in St Louis, a lovely clear bright pink. Spreads gently.

About Me Getting Started
grew like wildfire, very impressed!
These are great! I planted them last fall, and they are already blooming the spring. I will buy more for sure! They made it through a fairly rough winter too.

I love Annie for it's color and Zone 5.

I use Annie as a groundcover under Roses. I love the fact that it is perennial here in the Midwest.
A lovely plant
from Denver, CO
We first put Annie! into a small bed of (amended) clay-y soil right next to our urban residential street, and it has done fine there. (In fact, it has overrun a few other things that we weren't too attached to anyway, so that's all good.) We then put three plants into a border in the back yard, also in full sun and with amended clay soil. One plant faded away, but the others seem to be doing fine. They are spreading out nicely, and the flowers are visible from the kitchen window quite some distance back. The flowers are not quite so densely packed as in the picture, but are numerous and very showy. We combined them with lantanas in complementary colors, which made a lovely display, and behind them are Alma Potschke asters. Overall, an excellent plant that we are very glad to have!
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
