Last spring, I purchased one Blue Flax for our arid, mountain garden (zone 8-ish). Full disclosure: I did not follow the instructions. Specifically, I did not get it in the ground for days, probably more like weeks. After I finally planted it, the leaves died back, and I was certain I'd killed it, but this spring the brave little thing is poking through the river rocks. Maybe not the most glowing review, but I judge the Appar Blue Flax to be tough.

Comments about High Country Gardens Linum perenne Appar:
I have never been successful growing flax before. I planted this near plain old day lilies and ignored it all. The flax grew quickly and flowered all summer.

Long lasting, beautiful delicate color.

We found that our rabbits did nibble it. Lovely wistful plant. Even without flowers it is attractive and very, very long lasting.

Merchant response: Our apologies that the Linum perenne Appar has not met your expectations. Keep in mind that any perennial plants, such as this one, would be expected to show green growth the first year with blooms the 2nd and successive years. This plant is hardy in zones 3-9 and would prefer a location with full sun to morning sun & afternoon shade. Please know that we are committed to our customers success and stand behind all of our products with our 100% guarantee. If this plant fails to thrive, please contact us and we will be happy to go over some resolutions options with you. Happy Gardening!

Much of what is called "blue" is really purple, lavender, or something other than true blue. Not this flax! The profusion of blue flowers moving in the summer breeze is truly breathtaking in its beauty.

I used them with large plants which detracted from their delicate flower heads

I bought these on a whim last year -- got three of them on sale. Didn't see much from them last year, so was pleasantly surprised when they not only survived a very hard freeze in mid-November and our normal up and down winter in Denver. They are STUNNING and I'm very pleased. Hope they will continue to bloom for a couple more months and then make through another Colorado winter so I can enjoy them next spring and summer.

beautiful in western NYState, too

bought three of these plants and put them in a very sunny and dry (for us in w. NY) spot. All three seemed to become well-established. One bloomed throughout the summer. I see them now as the snow melts and am expecting all three will be blooming this year.High Country plants have always done so well for me, and catalog information steers me to those that will thrive in my particular garden conditions.

Unique foliage. No flowers yet.
