Tanacetum densum ssp. amani (Partridge Feather) is a fabulous ground cover perfect for beautifying hot, dry areas of the garden with its attractive gray, ferny foliage and late spring display of yellow button-shaped flowers. Drought resistant/drought tolerant plant (xeric). 2010 Plant Select® Winner.
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low
temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will
survive the winter temperatures in your area.
If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack
of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
4-6" tall x 18-24" wide. 2010 Plant Select® Winner. This fabulous ground cover is perfect for beautifying hot, dry areas of the garden with its attractive gray, ferny foliage and late spring display of yellow button-shaped flowers. Tanacetum (Tansy or Partridge Feather) - is a genus of plants native to the Northern hemisphere grown for their ornamental foliage.
Preferred growing conditions:
Plant in most soil types, including dry clay.
Position in a full sun location.
Mulch with gravel.
Water regularly the first growing season to establish the plant. Thereafter, only occasional deep watering is needed, when conditions are dry in the heat of summer.
Deadhead the flowers when blooming is finished.
Fertilize lightly in the fall with Yum Yum Mix.
Special comments for Tanacetum densum ssp. amani
The plant is evergreen and shouldn't be cut back in the spring. In late fall, rake off brown tree leaves and other fall debris to keep plants clean and foliage healthy over the winter.
In Western climates that get summer rains, the fuzzy foliage can begin to rot-out with humid heat. If this occurs, cut back hard and plants will re-grow new stems and foliage.
It has been observed that Tanacetum densum ssp. amani grows well in dry, dappled shade.
