Tips for Growing Bee Balm
Bee Balm (Monarda) is a showy and vigorous old-fashioned garden perennial that blooms in summer. Bee Balm is, as the name suggests, “bee friendly,” deer resistant and will attract hummingbirds and butterflies to your garden. The varieties we carry are highly resistant to powdery mildew.
If you have particularly challenging gardening conditions (hot humid summers, periodic drought, or cold winters--as low as USDA zone 4), we recommend planting Mondarda fistulosa or Monarda 'Peter's Purple' (USDA zone 6) which grow easily in most soil types, including clay. The cold hardy zone 4 varieties are excellent for fall planting.

Comments about High Country Gardens Monarda didyma Raspberry Wine:
This plant started to grow but never really got larger than 8-10 inches. Did not bloom but at least it is still alive but barley hanging on.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

About Me Getting Started
These are wonderful plants. They are attractive with and without their blooms. Pollinators are attracted to their blooms and the hummingbirds love them.

I planted two of these last fall and forgot what they were. When they started blooming about a week ago, my jaw dropped. The flowers on this plant are incredible, and the bumble bees love it! I have it planted in fairly dense clay, which it isn't rated for. I added a bunch of horse manure when I started the garden though, so maybe that is why it is doing so well this year. Also, my neighbor's lawn is slightly above my garden, so all their excess water drains onto these plants. I hope they survive the clay, and come back next year.

beautiful addition to my garden, butterflys and polinators love it
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
