Tips for Growing Lavender
Lavender are sun-loving plants that thrive in hot weather and grow best in arid climates. Lavender plants will be taller and wider in mild winter, hot summer climates. The same varieties when grown in cold (zone 5-6) winter climates tend to be more compact. Lavender plants require two-to-three growing seasons to reach mature size.
Lavender plants are at their best in the drier parts of the US like the Great Plains, Intermountain West and West Coast (which has a true Mediterranean climate (wet winters and dry summers). The key is to make sure you choose a variety with sufficient winter cold hardiness for your region. (‘Vera’ and ‘Pastor’s Pride’ are among the most cold hardy.) Yet with proper soil preparation, and planting site selection, Lavender can also thrive in moister, more humid climates like the Mid-West, East Coast and Mid-Atlantic states.

This plant bloomed beautifully the first year in my garden and kept blooming until a heavy frost. It was stunning in combination with alternanthera.

About Me Avid Gardener
I used this in my xeriscape landscape since 2011and it performs splendidly. It stands up to winds, cold, and the extreme weather at 7,000feet. I've had other lavenders not perform as well. I will be adding more in future. Note that the bees love it.

About Me Getting Started
Had trouble in getting this beautiful plant to grow in the soil and climate in a high desert/mountainous region. The soil here is a combination of clay and sand. The planting instructions are clear, but the growing and maintenance directions are unclear. Plus, when calling in to find out what to do to customer service,...they read from a computer or manual what to do. This method of advise/help is unacceptable. The people at high country gardens need to be Actually knowledgeable in the growing process of the plant product, and/or they need to Add a separate division to answer such questions for customers like me.
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
