Lamium, also known as Deadnettle, is known for forming a beautiful spreading groundcover mat that helps deter weeds and prevent erosion. Native to Europe and Asia, this fast-growing plant tolerates varying moisture levels, including dry areas, in any soil type, including clay. It is amazing how the silvery and white heart-shaped leaves light up the shaded parts of the garden. Deer and rabbit resistant Lamium is especially useful as a lawn alternative, makes a nice underplanting for taller perennials and spring-blooming bulbs, and can drape over the edge of a container planting.
