To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
|Granita® Orange Cold Hardy Ice Plant (Delosperma) blooms in mid- to late spring with a stunning display of large, pure orange flowers. Granita® Orange grows to form a tidy mat of ground-hugging evergreen foliage. It was discovered in a Salt Lake City rock garden where it appeared as a volunteer seedling and has proven to be very cold hardy. It makes a great groundcover to plant around other late spring blooming perennials like Sundancer Daisy (Hymenoxys), Select Blue Catmint (Nepeta) and Penstemon.|
