Rotkugel is one of the very best ornamental oreganos that blooms in mid-to late summer with a profusion of flower heads filled with small bright pink flowers. A fantastic perennial for feeding bees and butterflies .

Comments about High Country Gardens Origanum Rotkugel:
Oh wow these are purple for just about ever! The leaves are cute and green as well and the shape of each plant is nicely rounded. This plant is never lonely, it is constantly covered by pollinators. Perhaps one of my best nursery purchases.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Lovely plant. It is now keeping my honeysuckle toes cool. Slow spreading, and wonderful small purple flower stalks that provide feed for the birds in winter. Beautiful green all year!

Disappointed in growth form of the rotkugel - have grown these for a few years, from you and the old Timberline Garden here in Colorado - very strange since the other 1 of 3 grew just fine in proximity.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I planted this last spring in Santa Barbara Ca (very much affected by the current drought). This little plant thrives with minimal water: the leaves are welcome relief from all the brown in the area and the bees love the flowers. It all survived a very rough transplant from clay pots to in the ground. Great plant, will be using it as a groundcover for other areas.
Bees love it.

Bees love this Origanum Rotkugel, and therefore, so do I. I purchased 6 additional ones to attract more pollinators.

I planted my Rotkugel in an area that does not get much water, and last year we only had 18" of rain in central Texas. It barely blooms, but as a ground cover, it spread to about 4x4, and its leaves are beautiful. I planned to plant it as an edging, but it took over my bed so I moved it. It transplants well. Our nights are warm; usually it is still 80 at midnight; maybe you have to have cooler nights for it to bloom.
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
