1. Choose a spot on your property that receives at least 6 hours of sun per day.
2. Prepare your soil by clearing the area of all existing growth.
3. Mix the Wildflower seeds with sand for better visibility.
4. After spreading the seed, we recommend compressing the seed into the soil.
5. After planting, give the area a good water.

Showy Pink Milkweed (Asclepias speciosa) is an essential wildflower for supporting Monarch butterflies by providing food for caterpillars and nectar for the adult butterflies. 3-4 ft. tall x 3 ft. wide.
Asclepias (Milkweed) are sun loving plants that are essential perennials for monarch butterflies providing food for caterpillars and nectar for adult butterflies. They bloom from mid-summer into early fall and, with their milky sap, are resistant to rabbits and deer.
Asclepias can be divided into two groups for plant care; Asclepias tuberosa with orange (sometimes yellow) flowers and all the other species with pink (sometimes white) flowers.
Preferred growing conditions:
Oftentimes, Milkweeds won't grow much their first season in the ground, so be patient. They are establishing their root system and crown. By the second growing season, the plants will begin to get bigger and look more robust. Asclepias species are an odd bunch and don't behave like many other more familiar perennials. So be patient and accept their quirky nature.

These starts never took off. So disappointed.
Healthy plants, my timing was off
from Salt Lake City, UT
Everything I have ordered from High Country Gardens has been AMAZING! The milkweed plants arrived about a month too soon - we can't plant tender plants until Mother's Day and I was unable to keep them healthy for a month indoors before getting them into the ground. I should have been more on the ball, and held the shipping date until closer to Mother's Day. Will know to do so moving forward. Thanks!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

About Me Professional Landscaper
Planted to attract Monarch butterflies, following instructions. Several leaves emerged but it never grew despite my expert horticultural skill as a professional landscape architect and horticulturist. A total failure.

Better Than I First Thought
By Honey Goldentoes Ranch

I purchased 5 milkweed plants, planted them in the fall, and doubted if they would make it through the Colorado winter. They did very well... 4 out of 5 are thriving and I am hoping to purchase more to plant this fall for the monarchs as a steward of my own small piece of the earth!

About Me Master Gardener
Plant is still quite small but has leaves. I am hoping our weather will get warmer to help the thing along. Hope to get this to grow so butterflies (perhaps the monarchs will come) will come to my garden.
All (3) of my plants failed to come up this spring.
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
